Assessment and Exploration Tools

Career Assessment
It can be challenging to relate your interests and preferences to specific career interests and occupations. Using career assessments, your Continuing Education career counselor can help you clarify your interests and strengths as they relate to occupations and areas of study. Call Continuing Education at 814-865-3443 to schedule an appointment to speak with a career counselor and to discuss how to take advantage of career resources.

The Strong Interest Inventory
The Strong Interest Inventory is a tool designed to help you identify your interests in relation to occupational groupings, specific occupations, and potential areas of academic study. It is a useful tool for anyone who is uncertain about career goals and areas of study.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Career Version
The MBTI, Career Version, is a tool designed to give you insight into your personality and how it correlates with varying occupations and occupational groupings. Understanding your preferences can help you understand how you relate and interact with others, what type of occupations are most compatible with your personality type, and what you might enjoy and be most successful at.

Career Exploration

Education as the Road to Career Advancement
Attaining a degree can:

  • be the fulfillment of a lifelong goal
  • demonstrate to an employer that you are willing to invest in yourself to gain a promotion
  • increase your self-confidence
  • improve your reasoning and decision-making abilities

Sometimes it is difficult to understand what education path you should follow to best prepare for a certain career. Your career counselor can give you more information and work with you to develop an education and career plan. A career counselor can help you:

  • understand your interests, abilities, skills, values, and goals through career assessment
  • gain knowledge about specific careers, occupations, and related areas of study through career exploration
  • make decisions about your career to help you make a transition to a more satisfying career
  • develop a career plan that may include enrolling in Penn State Continuing Education programs

Please call us at 814-865-3443 or toll free at 800-228-1627 to set up an appointment.
