


Nurse Management Certificate (12 Credits)
This credit program is designed for registered nurses who hold, or aspire to, nurse manager positions.
The certificate program in nurse management can enrich your knowledge of basic health care organizations and administration; the collection, analysis, and management of nursing data; concepts and techniques for managing nursing personnel; and concepts and techniques for enhancing nursing managerial behaviors.

The certificate program in nurse management can set you apart from other registered nurses on the career ladder. It can give you the tools to be successful in midlevel managerial nursing positions. The courses fulfill the nursing elective component of Penn State’s RN to B.S. program. (This degree program is offered online through Penn State World Campus.)
Admission Requirements
Enrollment in these courses is open to currently licensed registered nurses. All program courses must be taken for a letter grade, and students must maintain at least a C (2.0 grade-point) average to receive a Penn State certificate upon completing the program.

NURS 430 Organization and Administration for the Nurse Manager (3 credits)
Introduction to organizational theory and principles of practice in the administration of nursing services and patient care. Prerequisites: NURS 301, 302, 310, 320; or current and valid RN license for RN to B.S. majors
NURS 431 Data Management for Nurse Managers (3 credits)
Analysis of information systems to manage nursing service organizations; includes financial management, the budgeting processes, and productivity measurement. Prerequisites: NURS 301, 302, 310, 320; or current and valid RN license for RN to B.S. majors
NURS 432 Nursing Management of Human Resources (3 credits)
Mondays, February 15–April 26, 5:00–8:30 p.m.

Human resource management and related factors in nursing service organizations. Prerequisites: NURS 301, 302, 310, 320; or current and valid RN license for RN to B.S. majors
NURS 433 Seminar for Nurse Managers (3 credits)
Focuses on the application of management principles in the role of the nurse manager. Prerequisites: NURS 301, 302, 310, 320; or current and valid RN license for RN to B.S. majors
