After being laid off in 2001, Carol Holt enrolled in Penn State’s letters, arts, and sciences associate degree program. Since earning her associate degree, Carol has returned to Penn State to enroll in the bachelor of science degree program in security and risk analysis in the College of Information Sciences and Technology. “Going to college was a big step,” says Carol, a single mother of a teenage son. “Just take it one step at a time, and enjoy the journey.”
You can fit college study into your busy schedule by taking advantage of evening courses close to home. Penn State credit courses are offered at the Philipsburg-Osceola High School.
Courses are offered in the evening; take one course the first half of the semester and an additional course the second half of the semester toward a degree program, and you have enough credits to be able to apply for federal financial aid and scholarships for adults.
The general education courses offered in Philipsburg can be applied toward Penn State undergraduate degrees to meet the general education requirements. This local option is perfect for recent high school graduates who want to attend Penn State part-time and live at home, as well as for adults who are just starting college and need the flexibility of evening, after-work class times.
You can earn a certificate in information sciences and technology completely through evening classes held in Philipsburg. The certificate courses are also part of the core curriculum for the associate degree in information sciences and technology.
