Transitions: College and Career Prep

If you've dreamed of going to college or are considering a career change, this free program can help you gain the skills and confidence you need to succeed as an adult student. This program is designed to help you prepare for the next step in your education or career.

This program focuses on:

  • Improving study skills, including time management, test-taking, note-taking, and general organization
  • Improving reading comprehension
  • Developing basic research, college-level writing, and presentation skills
  • Developing a personal educational plan through career exploration
  • Increasing basic computer skills, including Word, PowerPoint, Internet, and email
  • Helping you understand available resources to help finance your educational plan
"I really enjoyed the class. It helped prepare me for getting into school mode. Taking the class allowed me to have confidence to take the leap to further my education. It gave me the opportunity to improve the necessary skills for higher education. Working on test taking, reading, math, and time management gave me an edge. The familiar medical terminology was a benefit, too. I hope the program will continue."

Sherry Wagner,
Transitions program graduate and adult student at the Penn State Lewistown Center

"'Transitions' is a 'dream' class for the instructors. Our students tend to be highly motivated people, determined to improve their lives. Education has always been the ticket to access to a better world, and watching students realize that they have so much to offer is exciting. Everyone needs some help in preparing for the challenges of returning to school. We have found that our 'Transitions' students acclimate to their classes faster and have more confidence than peers who have not taken the class."

Keith Mernin,
Transitions program instructor
